Passivhaus is the leading international low energy, design standard. Over 20,000 houses, schools, offices and other buildings have been designed, built and tested to this standard across Europe.

Why Passivhaus?

Passivhaus buildings achieve a 75% reduction in space heating requirements, compared to standard practice for UK new build. The Passivhaus standard therefore gives a robust method to help the industry achieve the 80% carbon reductions that are set as a legislative target for the UK Government.

Evidence and feedback to date also shows that Passivhaus buildings are performing to standard, which is also crucial, given that the discrepancy between design aspiration and as-built performance for many new buildings in the UK can be as much as 50-100%.

About the Passivhaus Trust

The Passivhaus Trust is an independent, non-profit organisation that will provide leadership in the UK for the adoption of the Passivhaus standard and methodology. Its aim is to promote the principles of Passivhaus as a highly effective way of reducing energy use and carbon emissions from buildings in the UK, as well as providing high standards of comfort and building health.

The Passivhaus Trust aims to:

1. preserve the integrity of Passivhaus standards and methodology.
2. promote Passivhaus principles to the industry and government.
3. undertake research and development on Passivhaus standards in the UK.
